Description

The funding program Grants in the Field of Nature Conservation (FRL-Nature) specifically supports projects in nature and landscape conservation in Saarland. It targets a broad audience such as companies, public institutions, private individuals, municipalities, as well as associations and organizations that wish to initiate projects in the field of environmental/nature conservation. The funding measures encompass a variety of approaches, ranging from the development and updating of protection and management plans to design, protection, maintenance, and development measures. This also includes support for non-productive investment nature conservation as well as contractual nature conservation. Financing is provided as a grant, which depending on the project amounts to between 10% and 100% of eligible expenses, with a minimum threshold of EUR 5,000.

Within the framework of the program, funding is provided from various sources such as funds from Saarland, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), and the Joint Task for the Improvement of Agricultural Structures and Coastal Protection (GAK). The funding aims to support nature conservation projects that make a significant contribution to the preservation and development of nature and landscape. For example, projects for the creation of protection and management plans for Natura 2000 sites or other areas of high natural value may be considered. Through this strategic support, measures for non-productive investment nature conservation and contractual nature conservation are also enabled, contributing to sustainable environmental and climate policy.

The funding requirements particularly include that the object and the measure to be funded are located or carried out in Saarland. The measures must comply with the objectives and principles of the Saarland Nature Conservation Act and ideally be derived from established nature conservation plans, biotope mappings, or similar analyses. Before the start of the projects, an application must be submitted using the corresponding application forms, with all relevant documents, such as the grant application and proof of use, attached. This practice-oriented funding concept supports sustainable and innovative projects that contribute to the preservation of natural resources and the sustainable development of the region, thereby promoting forward-looking environmental protection in Saarland.
