Description
The funding measure "Grants for sustainable connected mobility in urban regions" supports the implementation of innovative mobility concepts in North Rhine-Westphalia. With a total of up to €10 million in grants, extensive financial resources are available to municipal actors, public institutions, educational institutions, companies, interest groups, other associations, and foundations to realize sustainable and connected transport solutions. The goal is to implement packages of measures from current mobility plans that make traffic environmentally friendly, safe, and efficient. Eligible costs include investment expenses, preparatory and accompanying measures, as well as project management, while certain expenses such as real estate acquisition or retroactive costs are explicitly excluded. Projects that combine at least two thematic focuses—such as the redesign of urban infrastructure, digital networking, innovative mobility solutions, or accompanying measures to enhance public spaces—can benefit from a funding rate between 80 and 90 percent.
The initiative is primarily aimed at municipal administrations, research and educational institutions, as well as small businesses active in urban mobility design. Through the use of ERDF and state funds, the path toward a climate-neutral economy is supported, contributing to the mobility transition. Additionally, clear prerequisites must be met, such as the existence of a current mobility plan and proof of overall financing. Applications are submitted via the EFRE.NRW online portal and can be made continuously, with the entry period beginning on January 15, 2024, and applications accepted until December 31, 2027. This funding thus offers an attractive opportunity to advance forward-looking projects in urban regions and sustainably transform the transport sector in North Rhine-Westphalia.
