About the funder
The Alexander Otto Sports Foundation was established in 2006 by entrepreneur and patron Alexander Otto. With a funding volume of approximately €37 million, it has supported over 400 projects in Hamburg to date. Its focus areas are grassroots sports, competitive sports, inclusive sports, as well as school and daycare sports. The foundation supports non-profit sports clubs and schools by subsidizing sports equipment, hall rental fees, and operating costs, and awards the annual Werner Otto Prize for exemplary sports projects.

Mission & Vision
Sport enables participation and togetherness, which is very important for each individual and our society. The Alexander Otto Sportstiftung strengthens sport as an inclusive meeting place and a driver of social engagement in Hamburg, supports sustainable projects, honors exemplary commitment with awards, and facilitates knowledge transfer between clubs, schools, and educational institutions.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at non-profit sports clubs, schools, and social organizations in Hamburg that offer sports activities for children, adolescents, people with disabilities, and socially disadvantaged groups. Special consideration is given to projects that enable participation in sports for as many people as possible through inclusive and innovative approaches.
