Non-profit organization

About the funder

The alwine FOUNDATION – Aging with Dignity gGmbH was founded in 2009 by Martina Schildhauer as a foundation initiative against elderly poverty. As a non-profit organization based in Weinheim, it focuses on elderly poverty, violence against the elderly, and dementia. Through unbureaucratic direct assistance such as the winter special fund, the mobile senior food service, animal ambulance, protective housing, and a variety of cultural and social projects, it supports older people who are not adequately reached by their environment or public services. The foundation works closely with local partners such as AWO, hospitals, and social thrift stores.

Mission & Vision

Our goal is to enable elderly people in financial, social, or health-related distress to participate in life with dignity. We aim to provide direct and targeted assistance where the system fails, effectively counteracting loneliness, violence, or poverty in old age. In the spirit of our namesake Alwine Brand, we are committed to a life in old age without exclusion and fear, while simultaneously promoting public discourse on the conditions for dignified aging.

Target groups

The funding programs are aimed at senior citizens – particularly those aged 60 and over – who are affected by old-age poverty, social isolation, elder abuse, or dementia. The foundation supports both individuals and residents of care facilities in Weinheim and surrounding regions who lack adequate access to social services or are unable to help themselves due to bureaucratic obstacles. The focus is on needy elderly people with little or no income.
