The Office of the Lower Austrian Provincial Government, Department of Social Affairs and Generational Support (GS5), is a central division of the provincial administration responsible for social administration, senior citizen support, social assistance, and generational programs. GS5 manages funding in accordance with the Lower Austrian Senior Citizens Act (LGBl. 9280-3) to support non-profit senior organizations, initiates projects to activate older adults and promote intergenerational cooperation, oversees victim support, and coordinates provincial youth and family support. The department supervises and monitors the biennial allocation of funds (2025–2026) according to percentage distribution keys and ensures auditing and data processing in compliance with the GDPR.

Our mission is the sustainable strengthening of social participation for all generations in Lower Austria. We promote proactive senior citizen work, intergenerational projects, and voluntary engagement of older people. As a governmental body, we create the framework conditions for a connected social landscape, ensure transparency in the use of funds, and support families, youth, and women in the spirit of a solidaristic society.

GS5 is primarily aimed at non-profit senior organizations in Lower Austria as well as recognized church and religious communities that operate senior services throughout the state. Additional target groups include initiatives and institutions offering intergenerational activities, as well as citizens and volunteer groups implementing projects to support seniors, families, youth, and women.
