The Department of Economy and Research is part of the Directorate for Regional Planning, Economic and Rural Development within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. Under the leadership of Mag. Markus Roider, MBA, it develops and manages funding programs for the economy, labor, and tourism. Its focus areas include the promotion of research and development cooperations, support for innovative projects, and the assurance of sustainable, regional value creation.

Mission & Vision
The Department of Economy and Research aims to strengthen the innovation capacity and competitiveness of Upper Austrian companies and research institutions through targeted funding programs. It promotes knowledge transfer, initiates networking activities, and thus contributes to the creation of modern jobs and the sustainable development of the region.
Target groups
Funding is provided to companies with their registered office or primary physical location in Upper Austria, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as members of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce. Furthermore, the program targets cooperation and cluster initiatives in which at least three partners – including companies and research institutions – jointly carry out projects.
