The Department of Culture is a specialized division of the Directorate for Culture and Society within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. It is responsible for the development and implementation of the cultural policy of the state of Upper Austria as well as for the allocation of funding to artistic productions, programs, investments, and cultural mediation offerings. In close cooperation with cultural institutions, associations, and project groups, it ensures that art and culture are experienced in a diverse, innovative, and tradition-conscious manner throughout all regions of Upper Austria.

The Department of Culture is committed to promoting creative impulses, strengthening social cohesion through cultural offerings, and supporting the cultural dynamism in the region. The sustainable development of Upper Austria as a cultural region is at the core of its mission.

Artists and cultural practitioners from all disciplines are supported – from individual artists to cultural associations, as well as institutions and project initiatives that have their primary residence in Upper Austria or are strongly present in the state through their activities. The goal is to support innovative, diverse, and forward-looking cultural projects that provide a tangible added value to the cultural landscape of Upper Austria.
