About the funder

The Social Department of the Directorate for Social Affairs and Health within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government is responsible for central social services and funding programs in the state of Upper Austria. It ensures needs-based minimum security, assistance for securing livelihood and housing needs, supports people in special social situations, coordinates homelessness assistance as well as psychosocial counseling services, and develops funding measures in the area of integration. In its capacity as a department, it is bound by legal frameworks, the General Funding Guidelines of the state of Upper Austria, and internal regulations, and works closely with municipalities, non-profit organizations, and social service providers.

Our mission is to promote equal opportunities and social participation for all people in Upper Austria. We are committed to effective, sustainable, and needs-based social services, strengthening the network of social welfare provision, and supporting the implementation of innovative and inclusive projects through targeted funding programs.

Target groups

As a funding agency and social authority, the Social Department directs its programs towards legal entities such as municipalities, non-profit organizations, associations, and educational institutions that implement ongoing integration and social projects, as well as towards individuals in special social situations, including low-income families, elderly and homeless persons, people with disabilities, or those with a migration background who require financial assistance and care services.
