About the funder
The Department of Disaster Protection and Civil Defense within the Office of the Styrian Provincial Government coordinates all activities related to disaster and civil protection in Styria. It develops legal frameworks and guidelines, oversees emergency and disaster medicine, provides technical and organizational support to response organizations, promotes training and further education as well as self-protection measures, and offers central services and funding for fire brigades, rescue services, aid organizations, and other partners.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is to prepare and protect the population of Styria as well as all involved emergency personnel to the best possible extent against disaster situations. Through coordinated planning, clear legal regulations, and targeted funding measures, we enhance the effectiveness and resilience of emergency organizations. In the event of an emergency, we ensure rapid, reliable, and effective assistance.
Target groups
The services of the specialized department are aimed at all organizations and institutions active in disaster management in Styria – in particular volunteer and professional fire brigades, the Red and Green Cross, mountain and cave rescue, water rescue, amateur radio groups, civil service offices, as well as medical specialist units and emergency medicine bases. In addition, leaders and staff of these emergency organizations are supported through training and continuing education programs.
