The Office of the Vorarlberg State Government, Department IVd – Sanitary Affairs, is responsible for the organization and coordination of all school medical examinations and other health-related tasks in the education sector. Following the termination of the previous administration by aks gesundheit GmbH as of the 2023/24 school year, the department will take over the comprehensive management of the annual school examinations (§ 66 SchUG) as well as vaccinations, consultations for teaching staff, participation in school conferences, and quality assurance. Its responsibilities also include the digitization of documentation, central management of school health, provision of a pool of school physicians, and the introduction of "School Nurses" as a contact and coordination point.

The Department IVd – Sanitary Affairs of the Vorarlberg State Government is committed to promoting healthy development in Vorarlberg by systematically supporting school health. Through modern frameworks for school physicians, digitalization, centralized management, and preventive measures, we aim to ensure that children and adolescents receive timely medical care, are health-monitored, and are optimally supported in their development.

The services and funding programs of Department IVd primarily target students and educational institutions in Vorarlberg. This includes compulsory schools of all types, students, teachers, school community committees, and legal guardians. The goal is to implement health promotion, prevention, and counseling comprehensively and to compensate for disadvantaged regions or gaps in care through targeted measures.
