Armin Schmitt Stiftung für biblische Textforschung

The Armin Schmitt Foundation for Biblical Text Research is a private foundation named after the theologian Prof. Dr. Armin Schmitt, based in Regensburg. It annually supports and honors outstanding scholarly work in the fields of the Old and New Testament, Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, ancient Bible translations (especially the Septuagint), Qumran texts, as well as patristic research on biblical interpretation. Furthermore, the foundation organizes conferences and symposia and funds publications from the income generated by its endowment capital.

The foundation aims to ensure the quality and continuity of biblical textual research by awarding outstanding scholarly work and promoting interdisciplinary events. It sees itself as a non-denominational and interreligious platform that strengthens the dialogue between theology, ancient studies, and textual criticism.

The funding programs and calls of the Armin Schmitt Foundation are aimed at students (Bachelor’s, Master’s), doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers, as well as outstanding early-career scholars in Old and New Testament textual research. Eligible are works in the fields of exegesis, text and tradition criticism, Septuagint studies, Qumran research, apocryphal and pseudepigraphal studies, as well as patristic studies.
