About the funder

The Austrian Development Agency (ADA) is a limited liability company founded in 2004, wholly owned by the Republic of Austria, and acts as an agency for development cooperation and humanitarian aid. It develops, finances, and supports programs and projects in Africa, Asia, as well as Southeast and Eastern Europe. On behalf of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA), ADA manages national and EU programs, oversees calls for proposals, public tenders, and co-financing. With an annual volume of several hundred million euros, it funds initiatives aimed at poverty reduction, water, energy and food security, climate protection, gender equality, governance, and human rights.

Mission & Vision

The ADA is committed to reducing poverty, promoting peace, and protecting the environment. Through partnership-based collaboration with ministries, governments in partner countries, civil society organizations, universities, businesses, and international donors, it strives for sustainable development and transformative impact. In doing so, it aligns itself with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and international agreements.

Target groups

The ADA funding programs are aimed at governments and public institutions in the priority countries and regions of Austrian development cooperation, Austrian and international civil society organizations (CSOs), legal entities and development organizations within the meaning of the EZA Act based in Austria, companies that contribute to sustainable development through economic partnerships and strategic partnerships, as well as educational institutions, research institutes, and NGOs that implement development policy communication and global learning initiatives. Thus, ADA supports all actors who effectively contribute to the implementation of the SDGs in the field of development cooperation.
