Bayerische Transformations- und Forschungsstiftung
About the funder
The Bavarian Transformation and Research Foundation (BTFS) was established as a consumptive foundation with a minimum duration of ten years and pursues two complementary foundation purposes: In the area of "Transformation," it supports companies in the Free State of Bavaria with location-relevant investments and transformation projects, particularly as a supplementary financier to public funding. In the area of "Research," the foundation promotes non-university scientific and technological projects that are significant for the development of Bavaria, the Bavarian economy, or the protection of natural resources. In the research sector, BTFS acts both as a financier and as a project sponsor, while in the transformation sector it provides grants exclusively. Since 1990, over 1,083 projects have been funded with approximately €656 million in foundation funds. The foundation is a partner in the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency and works closely with the Bavarian State Ministry as well as other technology promoters.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is to sustainably strengthen Bavaria's innovative capacity and competitiveness by specifically supporting pioneering research projects and location-relevant transformation initiatives. In doing so, we contribute to technological development, the preservation and expansion of jobs, as well as sustainable structural development in the Free State.

Bavarian companies of all sizes (especially SMEs) as well as non-university research institutions and university laboratories in Bavaria are eligible for funding. The aim is application-oriented R&D collaborations between science and industry with demonstrable economic potential and investment projects in digitalization, resource efficiency, or climate neutrality that make a significant contribution to regional and structural transformation.
