About the funder

The Behnken-Berger Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law, established by Hermann Behnken (1889–1945) and Traute Behnken-Berger. Administration and management are handled by Commerzbank AG. The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research in the field of radiation protection, with a special focus on supporting early-career scientists.

Mission & Vision

The Behnken-Berger Foundation is committed to supporting young researchers in radiation protection, particularly in the areas of protection against environmental damage caused by X-rays and radioactivity, remediation of radiation damage, radiological diagnostics and therapy, as well as protective measures against radioactivity. Each year, portions of the interest income are awarded as Behnken-Berger Prizes, with women given preferential support in cases of equal qualification.

Target groups

The target group of the foundation consists of young scientists who have achieved outstanding scientific accomplishments in one of the following areas: radiation protection; therapeutic or diagnostic use of X-rays or ionizing radiation; application of physical methods in radiology; treatment of radiation injuries.
