About the funder

The Brigitte and Martin Krause Foundation was established in 1992 by Dr. Brigitte and Prof. Dr. Martin Krause in Münster. It is dedicated to promoting scientific research in the humanities, particularly Coptology, late antique and Coptic Egypt, as well as Manichaean studies at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. With an endowment of approximately €1.5 million and an annual funding volume of around €40,000, it supports the Institute of Egyptology and Coptology, including the Manichaean Studies Unit, through material resources, scholarships, and library grants.

Mission & Vision

The Brigitte and Martin Krause Foundation is committed to preserving the donors' intentions of the Krause couple and strengthening the humanities. Its goal is to sustainably promote Coptology and research on late antique Egypt, as well as to support scholars and students at the University of Münster in their academic work.

Target groups

Funding is exclusively provided to the Institute of Egyptology and Coptology at the University of Münster, including its research unit for Manichaean studies, as well as doctoral candidates in Coptology. The target group comprises university lecturers, researchers, and early-career scholars working in the fields of Coptic language, culture, history, and religion, as well as Manichaeism.
