Bürger- und Energiestiftung Lichtenau/Westfalen

The Bürger- und Energiestiftung Lichtenau/Westfalen is a non-profit foundation established in 2016 in the energy city of Lichtenau. It is primarily funded by donations from local wind power plant operators and uses these funds to support projects in the areas of education, environmental and climate protection, culture, as well as social and civic engagement. The foundation provides financial grants and independently implemented projects to support associations, initiatives, schools, and private initiators in Lichtenau and the surrounding area.

The foundation is committed to a responsibly developed, fair, and livable society within an intact natural environment. It understands sustainability as an attitude and a promise – a comprehensive question of justice that guides all areas of its activity, project funding, and asset management. It adheres to the principles of equality, fairness, openness, and tolerance, promotes ecologically compatible and charitable projects, assumes ecological responsibility in soliciting donations, and invests its assets exclusively in sustainable forms of investment.

The funding programs are aimed at the entire spectrum of civil society actors in the energy city of Lichtenau: citizens, associations, initiatives, non-profit institutions, as well as schools and daycare centers. Projects that make an innovative contribution to sustainable development, strengthen social cohesion, or enrich cultural offerings within the city area are supported. Special consideration is given to ideas with a high level of voluntary commitment and exemplary character.
