About the funder
The Bürgerstiftung Berlin is a non-profit, operational foundation founded in 1999 with an endowment of 300,000 DM. It independently develops and coordinates projects in the fields of education, language promotion, natural sciences, culture, environment, and integration. Annually, more than 10,000 children and young people at around 140 locations throughout Berlin benefit from over 56,000 hours of educational activities. With the support of over 500 volunteers, the foundation promotes educational equity and social participation and strengthens civic engagement in the city.

Mission & Vision
The mission of the Bürgerstiftung Berlin is to promote educational equity and social participation for disadvantaged children, youth, and seniors in Berlin. We aim to strengthen the shared responsibility of Berlin’s residents and to further develop volunteerism in order to jointly create a livable urban society.
Target groups
The funding programs of the Bürgerstiftung Berlin are aimed at disadvantaged children and young people in day-care centers, schools, and libraries, seniors and local initiatives, volunteers engaged as reading and learning mentors, educational institutions wishing to expand their offerings with voluntary support, as well as companies and sponsors who take on social responsibility.
