About the funder
The Bürgerstiftung Darmstadt is a non-profit foundation established by committed citizens of the science city of Darmstadt and the surrounding region. It brings together endowers, donors, and volunteers to support projects in the fields of education and upbringing, science and research, elderly, youth, family, and disability assistance, welfare, arts and culture, crime prevention, sports, environmental and nature conservation, healthcare, as well as international understanding and local heritage preservation. The foundation operates across party lines, is ecumenical, and independent of state-mandated duties. It is guided by the values of the Basic Law and advocates for a socially balanced, peaceful, environmentally responsible, culturally diverse, and tolerant civil society.

Mission & Vision
Our mission is: to inspire, promote, and support. We aim to strengthen the community spirit and the shared responsibility of the citizens of Darmstadt and the region by initiating and supporting sustainable projects. In doing so, we emphasize voluntary commitment, exemplary character, and societal impetus, without replacing official state duties.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at non-profit organizations, associations, initiatives, and – in exceptional cases – individuals based or with project locations in the science city of Darmstadt. Projects supported are primarily those for children, youth, and socially disadvantaged groups that demonstrate a high level of volunteer engagement, sustainable model character, and exemplary impact.
