The Bürgerstiftung für die Stadt und den Landkreis Kassel was established in 1999 on the initiative of the Kasseler Sparkasse with a founding capital of €25,565. It positions itself as a participatory foundation for the Kassel region and supports projects in the areas of youth, sports, social needs, culture, as well as nature and environmental protection. The foundation’s capital is built up and continuously increased through additional endowments and donations. Serving as an umbrella for more than 46 endowments to date, the Bürgerstiftung manages capital exceeding €12 million (as of 2019) and supports local initiatives and associations with earmarked funding.

Mission & Vision
"Community spirit creates the future." The Bürgerstiftung is supported by committed citizens and is dedicated to promoting charitable projects in the Kassel region. Its mission is to unite civic engagement in the form of money, time, and ideas to jointly address local challenges in the areas of youth, sports, social affairs, culture, nature, and the environment.
Target groups
The funding opportunities are aimed at non-profit associations, initiatives, and project sponsors in the city of Kassel and the Kassel district. In particular, projects that promote youth development, sports, social concerns, cultural life, as well as nature and environmental protection are targeted. Individuals, groups, and organizations with innovative, locally rooted projects that seek to strengthen the common good are invited to apply.
