About the funder

The Bürgerstiftung Rohrmeisterei Schwerte is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Schwerte. It was founded in 2001 by committed initiators and partner institutions of the urban community and operates the historic industrial monument Rohrmeisterei as a cultural center without public subsidies. The foundation promotes and organizes events in the fields of culture, youth and social work, monument preservation, as well as art projects, and maintains the landscape park along the Ruhr. Its statutory purposes include the preservation and operation of the historic pumping station, nature conservation measures in the landscape park, the implementation of cultural events, the provision of studio spaces, local heritage projects, youth work, as well as the integration and qualification of trainees, especially refugees.

Mission & Vision

The Bürgerstiftung Rohrmeisterei Schwerte is committed to the sustainable preservation and use of the Rohrmeisterei industrial monument as a place of social and charitable innovation. It promotes cultural diversity, monument conservation, and local history, supports youth and social projects as well as the professional integration of refugees, and develops the landscape park on the Ruhr into a public meeting place for art, nature, and community. In doing so, it operates without public subsidies and relies on voluntary commitment and private endowments.

Target groups

The funding programs and projects of the Bürgerstiftung Rohrmeisterei Schwerte are aimed at culture- and art-interested citizens of all age groups in Schwerte and the surrounding region, local clubs and initiatives in the fields of customs preservation and local history, youth and young adults especially within the framework of youth work and training programs, refugees and people with a migration background who seek integration and career prospects through qualification and internships in the hospitality industry, as well as nature lovers and recreation seekers in the landscape park.
