About the funder
The Bürgerstiftung Werra-Meißner is a community foundation established in May 2004 by 47 citizens of the Werra-Meißner district. Under the motto "We for our region – setting accents," it consolidates civic engagement in the form of money, time, and ideas to sustainably support social and cultural projects in the region. The founding donors initially contributed €61,600; as of December 31, 2024, the foundation managed assets exceeding €826,000. Currently, 140 private individuals, institutions, and companies belong to the community. From its inception until the end of 2024, 209 projects have been supported with more than €171,000.

Mission & Vision
The Bürgerstiftung Werra-Meißner aims to inspire philanthropy. It seeks to encourage citizens of the Werra-Meißner district—whether as individuals or businesses—to take greater shared responsibility for shaping their community and to jointly create impact for the region through donations of money, time, and ideas.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at non-profit initiatives and institutions in the Werra-Meißner district, as well as all citizens, private individuals, and companies in the region who wish to initiate or support projects in areas such as child, youth, and elderly care, arts and culture, international understanding, nature and environmental protection, or assistance for particularly needy individuals. The foundation acts as a partner and catalyst to consolidate and strengthen local engagement.
