About the funder
The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) is the central federal authority of expertise within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. It consolidates scientific expertise in national nature conservation, develops the basis for political decisions, and promotes projects for the preservation and development of biological diversity. Its responsibilities include, in addition to providing expert advice to the Federal Government, the implementation of international nature conservation agreements and the allocation of funding for research projects and conservation measures.

Mission & Vision
The BfN is committed to preserving and promoting biological diversity in Germany. It develops scientifically sound concepts, advises political bodies and the public, and supports practical nature conservation projects. Through research, cooperation, and information, the agency aims to ensure the sustainable development of nature and contribute to the protection of ecosystems.
Target groups
Ministries, research institutions, environmental and nature conservation organizations, municipalities, as well as civil society initiatives and practitioners in nature conservation are supported and advised. The BfN targets actors who implement projects for the recording, assessment, and preservation of species, habitats, and ecosystems, as well as scientific institutions conducting basic research to strengthen biodiversity.
