Cordts Art Foundation

Private foundation

About the funder

The Cordts Art Foundation is a legally recognized charitable foundation under civil law, based in Hamburg with a residence on the Berlin island of Schwanenwerder. Founded by the sculptor Franziska Seifert and her husband Tim Cordts (Franziska & Tim Cordts Foundation), it supports artists worldwide in the fields of painting, sculpture, installation, music, dance, and literature (excluding graphics and applied arts). Through free residential and work stays lasting three to ten months, as well as a monthly BVG public transport ticket, the foundation enables intensive creative work phases and eliminates financial barriers. A board of trustees selects the fellows, and each residency concludes with a presentation (exhibition, reading, or concert).

Mission & Vision

The Cordts Art Foundation aims to overcome the historical underrepresentation of female artists in the art world by providing them with an undisturbed space and financial independence for artistic experimentation. It promotes intercultural exchange, strengthens networks, and seeks to open the island of Schwanenwerder as an inspiring place for contemporary art to a broad audience.

Target groups

The target group consists of female artists from around the world with completed artistic training, working in the fields of painting, sculpture, installation, music, dance, or literature. The foundation addresses both established and emerging female artists without age restrictions and places emphasis on innovative, cross-media works. International applicants are expressly welcome.
