About the funder

The Deutsche Kindermedienstiftung Goldener Spatz is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Erfurt and Gera. It was established in 1993 to secure the long-term future of the "Goldener Spatz" festival, which was initiated in the GDR in 1979. As the organizer of the largest German-language festival for children's media, the foundation offers high-quality film and television productions for children a media-effective platform and is actively involved in media education projects such as film and media sponsorships as well as professional forums.

Mission & Vision

The Deutsche Kindermedienstiftung Goldener Spatz promotes outstanding children's media and strengthens the media literacy of children and adolescents. Through the festival and complementary projects, it creates space for critical engagement, creative participation, and interaction between young media users and filmmakers. Its goal is to sustainably ensure cultural diversity and quality in children's film and television as well as in digital formats.

Target groups

The foundation's offerings are aimed at children and adolescents as festival attendees and jury members, at school classes and teachers within the framework of film and media sponsorships, at filmmakers and producers of German-language children's media, as well as at multipliers from education, culture, and film policy. The foundation supports young film enthusiasts in Erfurt, Gera, and nationwide in engaging competently and creatively with media content.
