About the funder

The Deutsche Rheumastiftung is a non-profit, non-legal foundation based in Berlin, dedicated to promoting rheumatology research and self-help for people with rheumatic diseases. It was established through the collaboration of the German Society for Rheumatology e.V. and the German Rheuma League, and since then has consolidated the expertise of over 1,300 physicians and scientists as well as the experiences of more than 250,000 affected individuals. Through financial project grants, scholarships, the establishment of endowed professorships, and awards such as the Carol-Nachman Junior Research Prize, project awards, and the annual ideas competition, it supports innovative research approaches and improves the care and understanding of rheumatic diseases.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the German Rheumatism Foundation is to decode the causes of rheumatic diseases through targeted support of science and research in the field of rheumatology, enabling early intervention and further optimizing the treatment and rehabilitation of those affected. At the same time, it is committed to education and networking, promotes exchange between clinics, research, and patients, and strengthens self-help in order to make rheumatism curable in the long term.

Target groups

The funding programs of the German Rheumatism Foundation are aimed at scientific institutions, researchers, and early-career scientists in the field of rheumatology, as well as project sponsors seeking to improve the living conditions of rheumatism patients. In addition, patient organizations, self-help groups, and affected individuals benefit from educational and informational initiatives supported by the foundation.
