The German Foundation for Heart Research is a non-profit private foundation established in 1988 on the initiative of the German Heart Foundation e. V. It funds research projects in basic and clinical cardiovascular research in Germany with more than 2.5 million euros annually, focusing particularly on patient-oriented issues. Key areas include prevention, diagnostics, therapy, and follow-up care of heart and vascular diseases. In addition, the foundation awards scientific prizes (e.g., Becht Research Prize, Dr. Rusche Project Funding) and provides scholarships as well as seed funding of up to 80,000 euros per project for up to two years.

Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at scientists in Germany working in the field of cardiovascular research. Preference is given to patient-oriented research projects as well as early-career researchers up to the age of 40. Applications can be submitted online at any time, provided that no identical application has been submitted to other funding bodies and scientific independence is ensured.
