The Deutsches Meeresmuseum Foundation – Museum of Marine Science and Fisheries · Aquarium is a civil law foundation based in Stralsund. It was established in 1994 from the former municipal Natural History Museum Stralsund and aims to promote culture, science, and research in the maritime field, as well as to ensure the operation of several museum locations (Marine Museum, Ozeaneum, Natureum) as educational, scientific, and cultural institutions. The foundation is one of the cultural highlights in the new federal states and is dedicated to the interface of research, exhibition, and vibrant aquarium presentation.

Mission & Vision
The Deutsches Meeresmuseum Foundation is committed to the research and communication of the marine habitat. It promotes education, science, and research in the fields of marine science and fisheries, supports exhibitions and projects, and offers visitors of all ages a vivid access to marine environments. Its goal is to raise awareness for the protection of the marine environment and to make both cultural-historical and scientific knowledge accessible to the public.
Target groups
The foundation's offerings are aimed at visitors of all age groups – from families to school classes and children's groups, as well as professional audiences. They provide educational programs, excursions, and special events for pupils and students, as well as exhibitions for the general public. Additionally, within the framework of the Baltic Sea Research Foundation, the foundation supports early-career researchers and promotes research projects on the fauna, flora, and coastal ecosystems of the Baltic Sea.
