About the funder

The Dr. Bertold Moos Foundation is a non-profit, legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Bruchsal. Founded by the Karlsruhe journalist Dr. Bertold Moos (1937–2014), it promotes science, research, and education in the Nordbaden region with its assets. The foundation is administered by the Rotary Club Bruchsal-Schönborn. Its core activities include the biennially awarded science prizes (Dr. Bertold Moos Prize and Heinrich Wiemer Prize, each endowed with €10,000) as well as the Bruchsal Castle Talks event series featuring discussions on socially and ethically relevant topics.

Mission & Vision

The Dr. Bertold Moos Foundation is committed to recognizing and promoting outstanding scientific achievements as well as interdisciplinary exchange in the humanities and social sciences. At the same time, it aims to contribute to societal dialogue by creating public discussion platforms, such as the Schlossgespräche, and to strengthen education, research, and culture in the region.

Target groups

The funding programs and awards of the Dr. Bertold Moos Foundation are primarily aimed at university members – individuals or research teams – in the state of Baden-Württemberg. In particular, outstanding achievements in the humanities (linguistics, philosophy, ethics, history) and economics are recognized. Furthermore, the foundation addresses participants and speakers who wish to engage in socio-political and ethical debates through the Schlossgespräche.
