About the funder

The Dr. Joachim and Hanna Schmidt Foundation for Environment and Transport is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Hamburg. Founded in June 1992 by Dr.-Ing. E.h. Joachim Schmidt and his wife Hanna, the foundation supports scientific and charitable projects that examine the conflicts between transport infrastructure (particularly road construction) and the requirements of an intact natural environment. The goal is the development and dissemination of more environmentally friendly transport policies as well as the presentation of interdisciplinary solution models to limit environmental damage caused by transport. Funding is provided for individual research projects, doctoral and master's theses, seminars, symposia, and related publications.

Mission & Vision

The foundation is committed to reconciling environmental protection with the demands of a modern transportation infrastructure. Particular emphasis is placed on doctoral candidates, master's students, interdisciplinary research teams, and non-profit organizations aiming to develop innovative approaches to limit environmental damage caused by transport.
