About the funder
The Dr. Senckenberg Foundation was established in 1763 by Dr. Johann Christian Senckenberg in the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt am Main as a legal foundation under civil law. It pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes in accordance with the German Fiscal Code and is tax-privileged. The foundation's objective is to promote scientific medicine in Frankfurt am Main as well as to improve the healthcare provision for the city's inhabitants. Its main tasks include providing land, buildings, and financial resources for the operation of the Bürgerhospital, advising the governing bodies of the Bürgerhospital, conducting medical continuing education, and financially supporting scientific activities in various successor organizations and institutes (e.g., pathology, human genetics, anatomy, botany, history of medicine). The foundation is a co-founder of Goethe University Frankfurt and the sponsor of the Bürgerhospital.
