About the funder

The Dr. Valentin Gerein Foundation is a non-profit private foundation based in Hattersheim (Hesse), established in 2003 by parents and supporters of children with cancer and named after the pediatric hemato-oncologist Prof. Dr. Valentin Gerein. It supports medical and preventive projects in cancer research, particularly in the areas of HPV prevention, laryngeal papillomatosis, and children with cancer in the Chernobyl region. The foundation is funded exclusively through membership fees and donations and is also active in educational and advocacy work.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Dr. Valentin Gerein Foundation is to assist children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer, as well as families affected by the consequences of Chernobyl. We support research projects and preventive measures, educate those affected and the public, and create a network of professionals and volunteer mentors to sustainably improve the quality of life and treatment prospects of those affected.

Target groups

Our funding programs are aimed at children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer, patients with laryngeal papillomatosis and HPV associations, families and relatives in the Chernobyl region suffering from radiation-induced secondary illnesses, as well as volunteer mentors and professionals implementing therapeutic and care services for children with behavioral disorders and chronic illnesses.
