The Federal Railway Authority (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt, EBA) is a German federal authority headquartered in Bonn. It acts as the National Enforcement Body for passenger rights in rail, ship, and bus transport and enforces the European passenger rights regulations. Furthermore, the EBA is responsible as the planning approval authority for operational facilities of the federal railways (including magnetic levitation trains) and conducts the corresponding hearing and approval procedures under the General Railway Act. In its role as a safety authority, it supervises compliance with operational and technical safety standards in railway operations and is responsible for the approval of railway vehicles.
