Epona-Stiftung für Pferd und Umwelt
About the funder
The Epona Foundation for Horse and Environment is a non-profit foundation based in Germany since 2009, operating internationally. It is primarily committed to horses, ponies, and donkeys in distress: the animals are housed in species-appropriate conditions, nurtured, motivated, and, if necessary, placed in new, suitable homes. Additionally, the foundation supports social projects such as the day school Projeto Uerê in Rio de Janeiro and donkey aid projects for single mothers in Eritrea. Funding is provided through income from the foundation's assets and donations. The foundation is authorized to issue donation receipts.

Mission & Vision
The Epona Foundation understands the protection of animals and the environment as an indispensable task for preserving our world. It promotes species-appropriate living and a joyful retirement for horses and ponies in protected freedom. With the proceeds from the foundation’s assets and through donations, it implements projects across national borders and motivates people to engage voluntarily. It believes in the principle "People help horses – horses help people" and strives to honor exemplary achievements through its own seminars, lectures, publications, and awards.
Target groups
The funding programs are primarily aimed at horses, ponies, and donkeys in emergency situations – regardless of age or origin – which are cared for in a species-appropriate manner, rehabilitated, and, if necessary, rehomed. In addition, the foundation supports social target groups: children and adolescents in disadvantaged urban districts (Projeto Uerê, Favela Maré, Rio de Janeiro) as well as single mothers and their daughters in rural regions of Eritrea, who contribute to their livelihood through the gift of donated donkeys.
