About the funder
Founded in 1991, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW has been one of the most important funding institutions in Germany and Europe for over 30 years. With a recent funding volume of around 35 million euros, it strengthens film and media culture as well as the film and media industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its shareholders are the State of NRW, WDR, ZDF, and RTL; ProSiebenSat.1 is a funding partner. The foundation supports cinema and television films, series, games, web content, the modernization of cinemas, as well as the development of radio plays and supports emerging media talent in NRW. Its responsibilities also include location marketing, development, and the presentation of the media landscape at home and abroad. In this context, it holds shares in the ifs internationale filmschule köln, the Mediengründerzentrum NRW, the Grimme Institute, and German Films.

Mission & Vision
The Film and Media Foundation NRW aims to sustainably strengthen the film and media landscape of North Rhine-Westphalia. Through targeted funding programs for feature films, television films, series, games, web videos, and audio, as well as through measures in location marketing, location development, and international presentations, it promotes creative excellence, economic development, and cultural diversity in the media industry.
Target groups
Funding is provided to producers, filmmakers, and creatives from all sectors of the film and media industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. This includes companies and individuals from cinema, television, streaming, games, web video, and audio, as well as cinema operators, media start-up enthusiasts, and emerging talent in film who wish to realize innovative projects.
