The FWF is committed to ensuring the highest possible quality assurance of Austrian research and supports freely competing projects in all disciplines without a doctrine of funding priorities. Our mission is to support outstanding researchers and to strengthen Austria as a research location through international networking and transparent evaluation. In doing so, we understand basic research as a fundamental contribution to cultural, economic, and social progress.
Target groups
The FWF funding programs are aimed at national and international researchers at all career stages who conduct basic research. The focus is primarily on early-career researchers, whom the FWF supports through special scholarship and postdoctoral programs that promote mobility, independence, and career opportunities. In addition, scientific teams in special research areas and research centers, as well as industrial enterprises within the framework of impulse projects, benefit from knowledge transfer and networking between research and industry.
