Private foundation

About the funder

From baker to cultural patron: Founded in Hamburg, the Franz Wirth Memorial Foundation has supported highly talented young musicians since 1970. The family foundation was established by Franz Ernst Wirth in memory of his father Andreas Wirth and in cooperation with the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. Now in its fourth generation under the leadership of Dr. Ann-Kristin Lorenzet and Christiane Eiberger, the foundation awards scholarships, organizes concerts and holiday stays (including in Tuscany), has supported jazz students since 2018, and develops participatory, cross-genre projects in collaboration with cultural and social partners.

Mission & Vision

The Franz Wirth Memorial Foundation for the Promotion of Young Musical Talent aims to inspire, motivate, and connect exceptionally gifted young musicians so that they can realize their full potential. Like a conductor, it sees itself as an enabler: We support young musical talent through financial assistance, performance opportunities, personal mentoring, collaborations, and innovative projects to sustainably enrich the cultural life of Hamburg.

Target groups

The funding programs are aimed at exceptionally talented young musicians and composers, particularly students of the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre (classical and jazz). Support is provided to individuals and ensembles who demonstrate their eligibility for scholarships and projects of the foundation through outstanding achievements and compelling references.
