FrauenMediaTurm – Das feministische Archiv und Dokumentationszentrum
About the funder
The FrauenMediaTurm (FMT) is a non-profit feminist archive and documentation center established in 1984, located in the medieval Bayenturm at the Rheinauhafen in Cologne. As a reference library and digital portal, the FMT collects, catalogs, and preserves books, documents, image and media data related to the Historical and New Women’s Movements as well as pioneers of all eras. With a reference library, guided tours, projects such as the social media archive “On Their Shoulders,” and thematic online databases (literature and image database, EMMA full text, META catalog, DigiBib), it serves as a central contact point for research, education, and public relations concerning gender history and studies in the German-speaking region.

Mission & Vision
The FrauenMediaTurm sees itself as a sanctuary of feminist tradition and a space for experience concerning the present and future of the women's movement. It makes testimonies of feminist engagement accessible, preserves the memory of female biographies and movements, and thereby encourages critical dialogue about gender and social relations. Its mission is to make the diversity and continuity of feminist struggles visible and thus lay the foundation for future generations.
Target groups
The FMT targets a broad audience: scholars and students of gender and social sciences, educators and pupils, cultural workers, journalists, as well as interested citizens. It addresses all those who engage with the history and present of feminist movements, the study of women's lived realities, and the reflection on societal gender relations or wish to conduct research in these areas.
