About the funder
The Friedrich Thieding Foundation of the Hartmannbund is an independent private law foundation under the supervision of the State of Berlin. Founded in 1971 and named after Dr. Friedrich Thieding (former chairman of the Hartmannbund and health politician), it pursues exclusively charitable purposes in accordance with its statutes. Its central objective is the promotion of research, teaching, and adult education in all areas of healthcare, with seminars for physicians and medical students as the main focus. In addition, the foundation annually awards the Friedrich Thieding Prize to high-achieving and socially engaged medical students and supports needy students with a monthly scholarship.

Mission & Vision
The Friedrich-Thieding Foundation is committed to strengthening the scientific and professional-political qualifications of physicians and medical students. It supports practice-oriented seminars, awards scholarships and prizes, thereby contributing to the advancement of the healthcare system. Our goal is to support future medical professionals in research, teaching, and professional-political engagement and to promote dialogue within the healthcare system.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at medical students and young physicians who distinguish themselves through excellent academic performance as well as professional and socio-political engagement. Participants in the professional policy seminar series receive a comprehensive introduction to the German healthcare system and deepen their knowledge of health policy. Scholarships and awards are granted to students who, in addition to outstanding academic achievements, demonstrate verifiable commitment in associations or social initiatives.
