About the funder
The Friedrich-Wingert Foundation is a non-profit foundation established in memory of Prof. Dr. med. and Dipl.-Math. Friedrich Wingert (1939–1988). Prof. Wingert was a pioneer in the field of medical informatics and biomathematics and made significant contributions to the adaptation and further development of the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) in the German-speaking region. The foundation supports scientific research projects in the fields of medical informatics, bioinformatics, linguistics, and medicine, particularly those focusing on medical and nursing documentation and the development of computer-assisted methods and algorithms for the analysis of medical texts.

Mission & Vision
The Friedrich-Wingert Foundation aims to support young scientists in IT-based healthcare and thereby contribute to the improvement of medical care and research. Through the awarding of scholarships and prizes, it promotes innovative research and honors outstanding achievements to advance the development of new methods in medical documentation, information processing, and analysis.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at students and early-career researchers at colleges, universities, and other academic institutions who carry out projects in the fields of medical informatics, bioinformatics, linguistics, or medicine. In particular, projects are supported that make an independent contribution to the advancement of methods and algorithms for the computer-assisted analysis of medical texts and can present initial results at specialist conferences such as the GMDS Conference or DMEA.
