About the funder

The Gemeindepflege-Stiftung St. Katharinen was founded in 1885 at the initiative of Pastor Werner Bertram as a diaconal support fund and was further developed into an independent foundation in the early 20th century. It sustainably supports the community life of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Katharinen parish in Braunschweig through grants, donations, and investments. Historically, it contributed significantly to the construction and maintenance of the parish hall and church buildings and continues to ensure that diaconal, spiritual, and cultural offerings can be realized independently of public funding.

Mission & Vision

The Gemeindepflege Foundation St. Katharinen promotes and secures community life at Hagenmarkt in Braunschweig through targeted financial support and ideal accompaniment. It aims to serve as a reliable pillar to enable ecclesiastical and community innovations, create spaces for music, education, and diaconia, and strengthen the church congregation amid societal transformations.

Target groups

The foundation's funding opportunities are aimed at the members and staff of the St. Katharinen church congregation as well as at cooperation partners from education, culture, and social welfare. They benefit from grants for events, community spaces, and social projects. By opening its spaces and programs, the foundation equally addresses congregation members, local residents of the district, students, and music and cultural practitioners.
