About the funder

The Goldberg Foundation is a legal foundation under civil law based in Berlin, founded in 2003 by Dr. Clemens Goldberg. It supports cultural and scientific purposes, particularly interdisciplinary research, musicology and music history, performance practice (with a focus on 15th-century music), as well as new forms of aesthetic mediation (e.g., internet academy). The foundation implements its own projects (internet forum, digital source archives, editions) and supports ensembles, concerts, and scientific symposia on a non-profit basis.

Mission & Vision

The foundation sees itself as a network counter-model to the ideology of purely quantitative growth: capital should not serve only personal consumption but open doors to new, shared spaces. By supporting interdisciplinary discussion forums and digital source archives, it aims to overcome barriers between disciplines and present the music of the 15th century in dialogue with contemporary contexts.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Goldberg Foundation are aimed at scholars and students of musicology as well as interdisciplinary humanities and cultural research, musicians and ensembles specializing in historical performance practice (particularly the 15th century), cultural institutions and organizers developing innovative concert formats such as slow listening, and all those interested in digital sources and editions of Renaissance music.
