About the funder
The Gronewald Foundation for the Support of Hearing-Impaired Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults in Cologne and the Surrounding Area is a state-recognized non-profit foundation under civil law. Established in 2015 from the merger of the Dr. Gertrud Best Foundation and the Foundation Association for the Deaf-Mute Aid in Cologne e. V., it bears the name of the founder of hearing-impaired education in Cologne, Johann Joseph Gronewald. The foundation supports, with donation receipt obligation, in particular the Cultural and Educational Center for the Deaf in Cologne as well as the LVR Johann Joseph Gronewald School. The foundation’s assets originate from parental activities, the generous donation of Dr. Gertrud Best, and the assets of the predecessor organizations.

Mission & Vision
The Gronewald Foundation exclusively pursues charitable purposes. Its aim is to promote the education and training as well as the upbringing of hearing-impaired children, adolescents, and young adults in Cologne and the surrounding area, and to strengthen their social integration. Through financial and organizational support, it helps to prevent the isolation and loneliness of hearing-impaired individuals.

The foundation targets individuals and institutions that offer educational, support, and integration services for the hearing impaired, in particular the Cultural and Educational Center for the Deaf in Cologne and the LVR Johann-Joseph Gronewald School.
