About the funder

The Hamburg Cultural Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law that has been supporting emerging artists as well as children’s and youth culture in Hamburg since its establishment in 1988. With a comparatively small endowment, it raises its funding entirely through donations and benefit events. Each year, it awards more than 1 million euros to projects in the fields of visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, film, photography, and interdisciplinary arts, as well as to cultural education programs for children and young people.

Mission & Vision

The Hamburgische Kulturstiftung sees itself as a catalyst for new artistic developments and forms of expression in Hamburg. It supports freelance artists in the early years of their professionalization and promotes projects for and with children and young people. Together with private sponsors, foundations, and companies, it works towards a culturally vibrant Hamburg while simultaneously offering a meaningful opportunity for engagement.

Target groups

The funding programs are aimed at freelance emerging artists from all disciplines who have their main focus of work in Hamburg or are receiving their training here, as well as at professional actors in children’s and youth culture. Special emphasis is placed on experimental and innovative approaches. In addition, the foundation supports cultural integration projects for young people with refugee backgrounds.
