About the funder

The Hans Fallada Foundation was established on April 6, 2000, by the city of Neubrandenburg as a legally capable foundation under civil law with an initial capital of 600,000 DM. It is supervised by the Ministry of the Interior of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is based in Neubrandenburg. The purpose of the foundation is the permanent care and vibrant preservation of the literary legacy of the writer Hans Fallada. Its tasks include, in particular, supporting the maintenance and expansion of collections related to Fallada's life and work, promoting scholarly studies of his literary estate, as well as cultural support through acquisitions, exhibitions, conferences, publications, and the solicitation of donations and endowments.

Mission & Vision

The purpose of the foundation is to preserve and keep alive the Hans Fallada legacy in the broadest sense on a permanent basis. In accordance with § 58 No. 1 AO, the foundation particularly supports the maintenance and expansion of existing collections related to the life and work of Hans Fallada, as well as the scholarly study of his literary oeuvre, thereby contributing to the promotion of culture.

Target groups

The Hans Fallada Foundation is aimed at literary and cultural institutions, libraries, archives, museums, and research institutions that focus on the life and work of Hans Fallada. It supports academic conferences and publications, aids in the expansion and preservation of the Hans Fallada Archive at the Carwitz estate, and also addresses early-career researchers, students, literary societies, and the interested public who wish to contribute to the study and dissemination of Fallada’s legacy through projects, exhibitions, and publications.
