Hans und Gretchen Tiedje-Stiftung
About the funder
The Hans and Gretchen Tiedje Foundation is a private, legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Hamburg. It was established in 1982 by Hans and Gretchen Tiedje to sustainably use their assets for the education, health, and welfare of children and adolescents. The foundation supports families in financial distress, especially when children or adolescents are ill or disabled, promotes school and vocational education and training, assists expectant (primarily unmarried) mothers, and provides grants to social institutions and SOS Children's Villages. Concrete aid measures are undertaken – ranging from baby starter kits to furniture, disability-accessible vehicles, renovations, and training and vacation programs.

Mission & Vision
We help children grow: The Hans and Gretchen Tiedje Foundation is committed to supporting and promoting families with children in need. We believe that every child—whether ill, disabled, or healthy—has the right to a carefree childhood and educational opportunities. Our goal is to relieve families and caregiving institutions through straightforward and tailored assistance and to open up prospects for children’s personal and professional development.
Target groups
Our funding programs are aimed at families (including single parents) with children and adolescents in financial distress, especially when they are ill or disabled. Likewise, institutions and organizations – such as church congregations, Caritas, Diaconal Services, social welfare offices, or student unions – may submit applications on behalf of families in need. Furthermore, we support expectant (single) mothers and social agencies that operate facilities for children and adolescents.
