About the funder

The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) is an independent Institute for Advanced Study and a non-profit foundation of the states of Bremen and Lower Saxony as well as the city of Delmenhorst. It promotes excellent science through fellowships for outstanding researchers from around the world as well as through a postdoctoral program for regional early-career scientists. In addition, the HWK supports artistic residencies and authors with a scientific interest. It cooperates closely with the universities of Bremen and Oldenburg as well as other research institutions in the Northwest region.

Mission & Vision

The HWK is committed to promoting outstanding science free from short-term utility considerations and to creating a place for international and interdisciplinary exchange. It offers excellent researchers and creative minds space for personal and project-related fellowships, study groups, and public events to strengthen the dialogue between science and society.

Target groups

The funding opportunities of the HWK are aimed at outstanding scientists from around the world (Regular and Junior Fellowships), postdocs and junior professors at universities and research institutions in the Northwest region within the framework of the HWK Postdoc Program, as well as artists and authors with a strong scientific interest (Artists in Residence, Fiction Meets Science).
