About the funder

The Helga and Reinhard Werner Foundation (formerly Weserterrassen Foundation) is a non-profit, transparent organization based in Bremen. Since 1999, it has promoted exemplary child and youth work in the Mitte and Östliche Vorstadt districts through an annually awarded grant, directly supports selected projects, and collaborates with partners in the Bildungsbrücke initiative to finance school-related incidental costs for children from low-income families. The foundation operates in an unbureaucratic and voluntary manner, ensuring that every donation fully benefits the supported children and young people.

Mission & Vision

The foundation aims to empower children and young people in their personal, social, and academic development by creating spaces and recognition for engagement. It promotes the acquisition of skills, the assumption of responsibility, and self-confidence, and advocates for educational opportunities that are not dependent on parental income.

Target groups

The foundation supports children and adolescents in the Bremen districts of Mitte and Östliche Vorstadt, as well as organizations, associations, and projects committed to their advancement. The foundation’s award targets voluntary and non-profit actors who provide open services for children and youth (particularly refugees). In the Bildungsbrücke program, approximately 170–180 students from low-income families benefit annually from grants for school-related incidental costs.
