About the funder
The Helmut-John-Stiftung II is a legal, non-profit foundation based in Hanover. It was established in 2011 as the sole heir of Helmut John's legacy. Using the interest income from the estate, it funds projects that improve the quality of life for people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Funding criteria include seed financing, model character, and sustainable benefit. Since its inception, the foundation has supported interdisciplinary health seminars nationwide, outpatient assisted living arrangements, qualification measures for parent mentors, scientific studies, and inclusive leisure projects.

Mission & Vision
The Helmut-John Foundation II is committed to sustainably improving the situation of people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus in Germany. In accordance with the founder’s intentions, it promotes holistic medical and psychosocial counseling services for affected families and adult patients. As an initiator and financier of model projects, it advances inclusion, self-determination, and the networking of self-help, professional expertise, and research.
Target groups
Non-profit associations, institutions, and initiatives that provide services for people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus are supported. The focus is on projects for interdisciplinary care of adults, psychosocial counseling for parents, supervised living arrangements, peer support through trained parent mentors, as well as scientific research to improve health and participation. The target group comprises affected children, adolescents, adults, and their families who require additional assistance and support.
