About the funder
The IKEA Foundation is a legally recognized public foundation under civil law, headquartered in Munich with an office in Hofheim-Wallau (Hesse). Founded in 1981 by the German IKEA companies, it pursues charitable purposes in the areas of housing and living culture, support for projects for children and youth, as well as consumer advice. Furthermore, it is committed to promoting young talent in the fields of design and architecture through an annual design competition and the awarding of scholarships for theses. All proceeds from the foundation's capital and earmarked donations flow 100% into project funding, while all administrative costs are borne by IKEA Germany. Since its inception, the foundation has supported over 1,000 projects and invested approximately €4.1 million in project funding during the 2012–2014 reporting period and about €4.8 million from 2020 to 2023.

Our goal is to support creative solutions with modest resources and great dedication, going beyond mere financial contributions to achieve sustainable effects in society and the environment.
Target groups
Non-profit projects by individuals, groups, associations, initiatives, and institutions in Germany are supported, provided they operate in the fields of housing and living culture, child and youth development, consumer counseling, or sustainable design and architecture. Furthermore, the foundation specifically targets students of product and industrial design as well as interior architecture through its design competition and scholarship program.
