Karl u. Charlotte Spohn Stiftung

Private foundation

About the funder

The Karl & Charlotte Spohn Foundation was established in 2006 by Karl Spohn (1913–2007) and his wife Charlotte Spohn (1907–2002). Karl Spohn, authorized officer at Berliner Bank and longtime columnist for the Berliner Tagesspiegel, wished to contribute to humanitarian causes based on his war experiences and at the same time honor the memory of his parents Emil and Margarethe Spohn. The foundation supports blind and deaf individuals residing in Berlin and Hamburg. In addition to a training scholarship for the blind and deaf, it funds individual projects, such as scientific publications and educational institutions like the Ernst-Adolf-Eschke School for the Deaf.

The Karl & Charlotte Spohn Foundation is committed to supporting blind and deaf individuals in Berlin and Hamburg in their educational and vocational training as well as in the acquisition of disability-related assistive devices. Our goal is to create equal opportunities for people with sensory impairments and to support them in their personal and professional development.

Target groups

Funding is provided for blind and deaf individuals with their primary residence in Berlin or Hamburg. The target group includes trainees, students, and other learners who, due to their sensory impairment, rely on financial support for training or study expenses as well as on special technical or organizational aids.
